China Unicom sets up unit in Xiongan New Area

China Unicom Xiongan Industrial Internet Co Ltd, as the new company is called, is designed to co-ordinate innovative business teams and related resources such as cloud computing, big data, internet of things, and industrial internet for the Xiongan New Area.

China's ecology and environment ministry opens branch in Xiongan

  SHIJIAZHUANG - The Ministry of Ecology and Environment on Wednesday set up its first branch in Xiongan New Area, North China's Hebei province, since the establishment of the ministry in March. The Xiongan Ecology and Environment Bureau will mainly be responsible for environmental protection and pollution regulation, and improving water and air quality in Xiongan, another new area of "national significance" following the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shanghai Pudong New Area. Strict law enforcement and technological innovation will be emphasized during the fight against pollution and eco-civilization construction, said the new bureau.

Chinese Vice Premier calls for high-quality development of Xiongan New Area

  Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng has called for high-standard and high-quality development of the Xiongan New Area, during his recent inspection tour to the region. Han, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, underlined the importance of drawing world-class advanced experience and putting people first in design and construction of the new area. "The layout of Xiongan should combine modern and traditional cultural elements with compatible architectural features and colors, as well as city skylines," Han said.

Xiongan to host next cashierless fresh food market

  China's second-largest e-commerce site JD plans to open its second unmanned supermarket in Xiongan New Area, after it opened a 246 square-meter cashierless store, the firm's first project in the area, during the past Labor Day holiday. The store updates the retail experience by adding digital price tags that can provide updated price discounts in real time, and allowing customers to check out without the need to reach for their wallets by adopting facial recognition technologies, JD said. So far, JD has opened more than 10 such supermarkets in cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Yantai, Dalian, Suqian, Xi'an and Changchun.

High-tech industries to contribute 80% to Xiongan New Area's economy

  Eighty percent of the Xiongan New Area’s economic growth will come from high-end and high-tech industries, a government official said on Monday. The central government has called for more advanced, cutting-edge industries in Xiongan and does not encourage Xiongan to introduce mature industries that have reached a scale of trillions of yuan in other areas, said Wu Hequan, deputy head of the expert advisory committee on the collaborative development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei under the State Council, in an interview. In its master plan for Xiongan New Area, development will focus on new high-tech industries such as information technology.
